Bags!

One of the first things Elaina decided was that we needed to make pretty bags so we didn't use up a bunch of plastic bags that could go in the ocean and hurt the sea turtles (she knows they're my favorite.) Once again, how could I argue with that kind of logic? So, with the start up cash we had from the original recycling trip and grandma's Jo-ann's coupon we headed out to pick some material.

Grandma found this awesome recycling symbol material, but unfortunately it would have been out of our price range to make the whole bag out of it. So Elaina picked out some purple material to go with it. By the way, green and purple are her favorite colors so no real surprise there.

Next we went to work measuring out 10 bags at a 1/2 yard each.

Then the fun part, instead of trying to get a 5 year old to cut so many strait lines, Grandma W. had the great idea of me doing a starting cut and then letting her rip it the rest of the way.

Fun and a workout at the same time!

We even got cousin Joe in on the action : )

Once we had all the pieces "cut out" it was time to sew

Ta Da! The first finished bag.

  1. I love the bags! They are super cute. I'm really excited to collect bottles/cans in them for you too because we usually just collect ours in a plastic bag. These bags will be so much cuter hanging in our kitchen!
